On Gear Live: 2024 Nissan Z Nismo Review

After a lengthy introduction in which the American Idol judges, host and Top 13 contestants were paraded around on the stage, Tuesday’s performance episode started.

The theme was “Your Personal Idol,” and each chose songs from an artist who means something to them.

American Idol Mansion exterior

It’s good to be on television's number one show. Just ask the 13 would-be singers who have recently moved into an extravagant Hollywood mansion. Renting the palatial home for a single month costs a cool $100,000... but don't worry, American Idol can afford it.

Even American Idol’s resident diva can’t get her way all the time. In an interview with E! News, Jennifer Lopez reveals which three contestants she really wanted to keep, but couldn’t.

“It was very hard, and we weren’t ready,” she said of the entire wildcard round, which was tacked onto the end of Thursday’s results show. “It was hard. I love them all.”

The first results show of American Idol 10 began with an emotional montage of the Top 24 contestants through their various audition rounds, which seemed completely unending this season. They each performed only once on the big Idol stage (and not even live), getting just one shot to make their dreams come true.

For half of them, those dreams would die before the episode was over. How we love elimination rounds.

American Idol 10 Top 12 Girls

The second half of American Idol’s Top 24 stood up on the new stage Wednesday night. The new panel got another big introduction before they walked to their seats, and the in-house audience was giddy with excitement.

We’ve no idea why. Largely, Idol’s Top 12 Men were unimpressive (with, at best, three exceptions) on the big stage -- and they weren’t even live. All performances were taped last week, though the Thursday results will go out live in traditional Idol fashion.

Randy Jackson reminded viewing audiences that by the end of Thursday, the show will be left with a Top 10. That’s right -- a whopping 14 of them are going to be broken-hearted in less than 24 hours. “Ya gotta take it the moon today, and that’s where we’re going,” Steven Tyler told the night's performers.

American Idol 10 - Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson

According to our sources, the American Idol judges won’t name their wildcard picks this week. After the Top 10 are selected from the weeds Thursday night, the 14 failed contestants will fill up the stage next week to sing for the panel’s love.

After the singing is all said and done, the judges will pick just two to continue on in the contest. Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler will have the chance to save any of their favorites who didn't score the votes they needed. But... does that mean the viewers don’t get to vote? Speculation runs the gamut at this point, but it’s possible viewing audiences will have the opportunity to pick one or two more wildcards based upon their votes.

Keep track of this and all show gossip, spoilers and recaps when you read all our American Idol 10 posts.

American Idol 10 - Steven Tyler

American Idol opened its Tuesday episode with a new stage -- and, some shocking news. This is... not the American Idol we’ve grown used to. After the performances from the Top 24 this week, a staggering 10 contestants will be cut.

This is what happens when you invite too many people to Hollywood and drag out the audition rounds.

Clint Jun Gamboa was the first to take the stage (and therefore, the easiest to forget). He’s still wearing his glasses, a true mistake, and sang “Superstitious,” which was another mistake. The performance started out weak, and though Clint tried to sell it with plenty of dance moves and attitude, the band completely drowned out his little vocals.
